Off the Shelf: Go Jergens Natural Glow
October 24, 2005 on 8:38 am by MortensonThis discussion thread has several good points and recommendations for tanning lotions and creams. Some of the products mentioned are: Jergens Netural Glow, Coppertone Endless Summer, AquaTini, and Cal Tan Extender. One of the posters also talks about the risks of trying to mix up your own tanning products:
“… go ahead and get a cheap lotion (with no mineral oil or Vaseline) and add some spray tan DHA and make up your own. I’m sure you can figure out the proper mix… and if not, let me be the first to call you Mr. Pumpkin…”
So leave it to the professionals, or risk looking like a pumpkin, just in time for Halloween! Or at least read reviews for any product you might want to try. More information on Jergens Natural Glow
Indoor Tanning = Not Worth the Risk
October 23, 2005 on 9:16 am by MortensonThe risk tanning indoors with either tanning bed or any UV lamp outweighs the benefit. This is a common point we have harped on at our site, and we sincerely believe it’s just not justifiable to go that route now that there are safe tanning creams and effective sunless tanning solutions available that work, and work well, thank to the tide of DHA based products.
This indoor tanning article highlights the perils associated tanning beds and the ways in which consumers were mislead to think they were much safer than they actuall are. Money quote:
However, six more recent, rigorously designed studies have found an association between indoor tanning and the development of melanoma. Of particular note, no study has ever suggested a protective role for indoor tanning. While these studies remain inconclusive, they were enough for the American Medical Association to call for a ban on tanning beds. …..
Despite this knowledge, tanning indoors and outdoors is more popular than ever. Most studies suggest young women are the most frequent patrons of tanning salons. The development of photoaging and skin cancer will take years to become apparent in these young tanners, while the perceived social value of a tan is apparent immediately. It seems likely the indoor tanning industry will continue to actively market its services, including the rather dubious claim that indoor tanning is not only harmless but is healthy.
The emphasis is ours. Premature aging, wrinkles and increased prevlance of cancer are the risks of tanning beds, all of which are not risks associated with using a sunless tanning product/moisturizer. We cannot underscore this enough.
Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Kit – Great for the Face
October 22, 2005 on 7:51 am by MortensonHaving recently heard friends talk about tanning moisturizers, I decided to go to my local drugstore to take a look at what self-tanners were on the market. One product that caught my eye was the Neutrogena® Sunless Tanning Kit. Often, when I use other moisturizers or suntan lotion, I don’t like putting it on my face because it feels too oily or uncomfortable. Neutrogena’s self-tanning kit, however, comes with three different products, each meant to help give you the most even, sunless tan possible.
My personal favorite was the bronzer for the face, which I could apply without it feeling too greasy afterwards. It also claims to not clog pores. In addition to the self-tanning product for the face, the kit comes with an exfoliating scrub to use pre-moisturizer and a self-tanning lotion for the body as well.

Editor’s Pick: Clarins Liquid Bronze Self-Tanner
October 21, 2005 on 3:31 am by MortensonClarins has outdone itself this time with their Liquid Bronze product. This is the best self tanning lotion I’ve tried to date. Here are some of the reasons why I loved the Liquid Bronzer and why it might be the tanner for you.
1) Far and away the best scent and feel I’ve encountered in a self-tanner!! Clarins has basically created a fragrant, moisturizing self-tanning product that has the fantastic scent of a nice perfume and the delicate touch of a smooth moisturizer. And the best part is that I can put it on in the morning and not have to worry about getting grossed out looks from all the guys on the train.
2) The long-lasting bronze glow is absolutely ideal for my skin tone (medium). After I apply the Bronzer it lasts at least 5 days. And every time I add on another application my skin gets darker and darker, just like a real tan.
3) The Liquid Bronze is so reliable and easy to use. I never have to worry about streaking or splotching or any of that other crap. I just put it on a pad, rub it on my skin and Voila, a perfect tan.
4) A little pricey but well worth it given the quality of the tan you’ll receive. For under $30 you’ll get a 4.2 ounce bottle
Go buy it now. You can thank me later.
Jergens Natural Glow: Tailored for your Skin Tone
October 20, 2005 on 8:44 pm by MortensonWhen shopping for Jergens Natural Glow, it’s important to makre sure that you get the proper bottle for your skin tone. Don’t just grab whatever is left on the shelf without reviewing it! There are color charts on the back of the packages that allow you to select and review the appropriate natural glow formula for your skin tone. Jergens also offers the following helpful tips to help you decide whether to use the Fair Skin Tones formula or the Medium Skin Tones formula.
• A good place to check for your natural skin tone is the inside (or underside) of your forearms, since these areas typically are not exposed to the sun.
• Another way to choose your formula is to refer to your favorite facial foundation color. If you typically use foundation colors that are fair (for example: Ivory, Porcelain, Alabaster), then choose the Jergens® natural glow Fair Skin Tones formula. If you typically use foundation colors that are medium (for example: Beige, Tawny, Caramel), then choose the Jergens® natural glow Medium Skin Tones formula.
Using the formula tailored for your natural skin tone will ensure the most natural-looking color. Click here for more information on Jergens Natural Glow.
Have You Joined the Jergens Natural Glow Cult Yet?
October 19, 2005 on 10:11 am by MortensonJergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer is more than just a small obsession for some people. This girl and her friends appear to be starting their own cult.
“Many of my friends have asked for my help in securing bottles of the coveted self-tanner/moisturizer Jergens Natural Glow, but even my powers only extend so far…”
If I had a dime for every time I joined a cult back in the 80′s I’d be a rich man. I thought those days were behind me, but now that my divorces are finalized I say why not! If rubbing that silky lotion into my skin is wrong I don’t want to be right — count me in! For all potential cultists, be sure to get informed and read some reviews about Jergens Natural Glow before you join the skin darkening group.
Skin Polishing Towels from eBubbles Sunless Tanning Review
October 18, 2005 on 8:33 am by Mortenson
In an earlier review of the Sluffwipes disposable towels, it was apparent that while exfoliating is a key part of tanning, that the disposable nature of the product wasn’t necessary and offered a bad relative value. A cheaper alternative would be these eBubbles Skin Polishing Towels. Same concept as the disposable towelettes, but this product is reusable and at $5.95 a much better value.
Mini-review:
Strengths: Like a value level luffa, comes in colors, perfect for hanging in the shower
Weaknesses: Needs to be washed over time
If you need a cheap exfoliator, this private label value product under their eBubbles brand is perfect. Click here to buy the eBubbles Skin Polishing Towels
