Shiseido’s Brilliant Bronze Self-Tanning Cream Combines the Best of Both Worlds
November 22, 2005 on 4:15 am by MortensonTanning moisturizers and self-tanners have become a global sensation! Japan skincare and cosmetics company Shiseido offers a number of self-tanning products. Some of these products not only boast the affects of tanning moisturizer, but also give the benefits of sun block as well.
One such product is Shiseido’s Brilliant Bronze Self-Tanning Cream. Geared toward the face, this product uses a “micro-pearlized” cream formula to give you a smooth, even tan. In addition, it contains an SPF 17 sun block that protects from the sun’s harmful rays.
Shiseido also offers a variety of other sunless tanning products, including Brilliant Bronze Self-Tanning Emulsion and Brilliant Bronze Quick Self-Tanning Gel. For more information, visit their website (www.shiseido.co.jp).
Oil Free Tanning is the Way to Be
November 19, 2005 on 11:32 pm by MortensonTips and tricks for various moisturizers that have tanning capabilities? Combine them in one.
If you choose to use a self-tanner that does not contain moisturizer, be careful of which moisturizer you choose to keep your skin from drying. Moisturizers that contain oil can mix with self-tanners, preventing even absorption of self-tanners. This can lead to a streaky, patchy mess that no one wants to deal with.
One alternative is buying oil-free moisturizers. Beyond Bronze Oil Free Moisturizer, a product by Fake Bake, is a moisturizer specifically designed to help with self-tanning products. Beyond Bronze’s Oil Free Moisturizer is designed as such to guarantee an even sunless tan across the body. Another alternative is to choose moisturizers that automatically help enhance your tan, such as Jergen’s Natural Glow or Olay Quench Radiance Reviver. And don’t forget Fake Bake’s own Self-Tanning Lotion.
California North Titanium Self Tanner Review: To Each His Own
November 18, 2005 on 8:15 am by Mortenson
I’ve developed some mixed emotions regarding California North’s foray into the self-tanning lotion market. I can see why their product, the Titanium Self Tanner has gotten glowing recommendations from many folks, who claim this sunless tanning lotion to be one of the premier products on the market.
But, as the old phrase goes, different strokes for different folks. The Titanium Self Tanner can certainly be lauded for many fine features that should be included in any sunless tanner worth its ilk. The smell is a downright delicious orange aroma, a far cry from many of the other tanners on the market that make you want to wretch. Additionally, the smooth blend of antioxidants, skin conditioners, botanical extracts, and an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 7 make up a multi-faceted product that promises to protect and nurture the skin as well as darken it.
But while I applaud all of these aspects of the Titanium Self-Tanner, I would be doing those of you out there expecting to find perfection a disservice if I didn’t mention the few negatives that exist as well. The first one being the obvious one: cost. But even at $26, this isn’t too unreasonable, considering the bottle is 8 oz., which is twice the standard size of a typical self-tanner. But more than cost is the problem of what you get for that cost. I am someone who loves a dark, illustrious tan from my sunless tanning products. What I got with TST was a much subtler tan, forcing me to reapply 4 separate times in order to achieve results that rivaled the darker alternatives that I have tested. Bear in mind that this is only a negative if you’re someone like me, who thinks the darker the better. Therefore, if you’re looking for a subtle, natural looking tan, then I strongly support the Titanium Self-Tanner. But if you go in thinking that one application of this is going to make your friends think you spent the week in the Caribbean, well… you’re in for a rude awakening. Review:
Pros: sweet smelling lotion, gentle on the skin, contains SPF, spreads easily on body, natural looking light tan and glow
Cons: Takes multiple applications to produce darker tones
Fake Bake Self-Tanning Lotion Review: Not Just a Cute Name
November 17, 2005 on 4:17 am by MortensonOne tanning moisturizer that you may not have heard of is Fake Bake Self-Tanning Lotion. Fake Bake, a familiar name to all sunless tanners, offers a variety of self-tanners geared to give you a golden tan from head to toe.
This is no kid’s self-tanner. Fake Bake prides itself on its “richness in color” and formula that “enriches your own tanning pigments” without turning your skin yellow or orange. It is created from botanically extracted ingredients that “moisturize, hydrate and protect the body without clogging the pores or irritating sensitive skin.”
Fake Bake comes in a variety of types including self-tanning lotion, self-tanning mousse, Xtreme gel, and face tanners. It features a “goof proof” application process that helps minimize streaking. The “easy to see” product helps you identify any spots you’ve missed on your body, giving you a golden tan all around. The Fake Bake website also features a variety of makeup products for review, all designed to go great with your new tan.
Precautions for Using Sunless Tanners
November 16, 2005 on 10:13 pm by MortensonIf you’re looking at this website, you’ve probably already considered the fact that tanning moisturizers and sunless tanners are safer, healthier, alternatives to the sun. While we at tanningmoisturizer.com undoubtedly agree, we would also like to ensure that you use these products as safely as possible. Here are some precautions to take before basking yourself in sunless glory:
-Some people are allergic to tanning moisturizers. They say pain is beauty, but a sunless tan is not worth an allergic reaction! Here’s a quick test to ensure your safety: Take the sunless tanning product and apply a small amount to a discreet part of the body. If you notice an itching or discomfort, do not use the product.
-Use a sun block or suntan lotion in conjunction with your sunless tanner. While many tanning moisturizers contain a small amount of SPF, they often do not contain enough to make an incremental difference in sun protection. Slather on some suntan lotion to avoid the damaging effects of the sun.
Doing these things will ensure that you have a smooth sail to a sunless tan!
Jergens Natural Glow Sold Out in Roanoke, VA
November 15, 2005 on 2:10 pm by MortensonStores in Roanoke, VA can’t keep up with the demand for Jergens Natural Glow. It’s sold out of every store in town, while Jergen’s tries to make more of their new tanning moisturizer product as quickly as possible. From the article:
“It moisturizes. It tans. It’s cheap.”
That pretty much says it all. Maybe it’s because Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer Lotion is Jergens biggest launch ever! If you can find this product on the shelf of your drugstore, grab it before it’s gone!
Paraben Perceived Potentially Problematic
November 14, 2005 on 1:09 am by MortensonWell, in addition to worrying about mercury in your fish and salmonella in your burger, now there’s something new to worry about: paraben. As this page describes:
Parabens– such as propylparaben, ethylparaben and butylparaben–are synthetic preservatives commonly used in cosmetics and personal care products like shampoos, skin creams and deodorants. They are suspected to be endocrine disruptors, and they have been found to mimic estrogen in laboratory experiments.
Whoa, hold on there professor. I don’t know what that means, but it doesn’t sound good. And I certainly don’t need anything all over my body that mimics estrogen. That leads us to where this connects to tanning moisturizer… apparently there are two products that don’t contain the dreaded parabens: Tanline Visible Results Self-Tanning Spray and Coppertone Endless Summer Gradual Tan Moisturizing Lotion. So if you’re trying to avoid parabens, make sure you either use one of those two products or do some research to make sure whatever you use is paraben-free. More on the chemistry behind sunless tanning lotions.
