Au Courant CLEAR Spray (with DHA) Review

February 28, 2006 on 11:06 am by Mortenson

Au Courant has an alternative to their Au Courant Sunless Instant Sunles Tanning Spray which they call the Au Courant Clear Spray (with DHA). Tne new spray is identical to the original spray except that is not a bronzer, it is only a self-tanning spray. Not everyone wants to be bronzed, and the Au Courant Clear Spray gives your skin a subtler tan rather tan an overbearing glow. It was also designed to work well with the Au Courant Instant Sunless Tanning Lotion to get a richer tan if desired. It also, like the original version, also contains alpha hydroxy acid to firm and renew your skin. The spray costs $29.95 for a 6oz spray bottle.

Rating: 8. Very solid, and we think this makes more sense than the original version for most people.

Ingredients: DHA, Alpha Hydroxy, Tetrasodium EDTA, Dmdmhydantoin, Citric Acid, Octoxynol-P, Chamomille, Orange Peel.

D o you know you like Au Courant’s sunless tanning products, but wish you could get them cheaper? Well Au Courant offers the Au Courant Sunless Instant Sunles Tanning Spray, Au Courant Instant Sunless Tanning Lotion and the Au Courant Magic Sun Tan Lotion Applicator in one package for just $44.95. To buy all these self-tanning products seperately would cost you over $50, so you save more than 10% buying them together. Both the sunless tanning spray and lotion work well, and together they cover up each other’s shortcomings to achieve a glowing tan all over the skin of your face and body. The applicator is a bonus.

Rating: 8.5, great value once you know you like the products.

Au Courant Magic Sun Tan Lotion Applicator Review

Au Courant has the Flock Sponge for the face. For applying self-tanning lotions to the body? This review focuses on the Au Courant Magic Sun Tan Lotion Applicator. It is a sponge square stuck on a plastic stick which allows you to paint your body with self-tanning spray, gel, mousse or lotion in all the hard to reach places of your body’s skin to help you achieve a smooth blended tan. It even comes with directions! The sponge stick applicator costs $1.45 and can be used to apply the Au Courant Sunless Mousse, Au Courant Instant Sunless Tanning Lotion, or any other sunless tanning lotion.

Rating: 6, like the Facial Flock Sponge, an application tool this basic can only get a rating so high.

Au Courant Instant Sunless Tanning Lotion Review

February 19, 2006 on 8:48 am by Mortenson

All the previous Au Courant products which TanningMoisturizer has examined have had both DHA and alpha hydroxy acid and all have been good self-tanning products. The Au Courant Instant Tanning Lotion still relies on DHA to achieve a “sunless tan” but it lacks bronzing elements and lacks the skin firming of alpha hydroxy. You apply the lotion with you hands be sure to wash them and also check our some TanningMoisturizer tanning tips. It leaves you not quite as dark as we had grown to expect from Au Courant products, but the softer tan looks good and the results are good. It also FEELS better once its on; your skin feels refreshed, clean and healthy. $29.95 for 8oz.

Rating: We think this product is an 8. We’d give it higher but some people seem to feel that the product made them look too orange. While we don’t feel the results were “orange,” but it needs to be noted.

Ingredients: DHA, Aloe Vera, Safflower Oil, PEG-100 Sterate, Glyderine, Polysorbate 80 and Cetyle Acetate, Dimethicone, PVP, Methylparaben, Proplyparaben, Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl UREA, Citric Acid, Panthenol, Chamomile, Rosemary.

Is Winter Tanning Safe? YES!

February 16, 2006 on 10:38 am by Mortenson

This article from a local Tennessee TV station asks Winter Tanning: Is It Safe?. Well, TanningMoisturizer.com has the answer: Yes, if you do it with self-tanning lotions, gels, sprays and tanning moisturizers or in self-tanning spay booths. No if you do in a tanning bed that uses tanning lamps as that increases your risk for skin cancer and accelerates your aging, just like the sun would because it replicates the sun.

If you’d rather err on the side of caution, at Yucatan Sun Spa there are alternatives to tanning beds that will give you a golden glow, without the streaky side effects of sunless tanners.

“This is, of course, a self tanner booth and it has 10 spray heads on it and you just step in and it just goes up the chains and sprays the front of you,” explains Harmon.

Sunless tanning is the only way to achieve a tan without increasing the risk of skin cancer.

This is obviously wrong, since TanningMoisturizer.com is a site full of self-tanning reviews of all manner of lotions, moisturizers, sprays and gels which will heplp you achieve tan without increasing the risk of skin cancer…or leaving a dent in your wallet like most booth spray tanning salons do.

The article also tries to imply that there is a “heated debate in the medical community” about how badly Self Tanning Lamps and the sun affect your skin’s health, but there is actually no debate. The sun and lamps are bad for you and cause skin cancer and your only alternative for a healthy tanning are the choices of spray-on tanning booths or self-tanning lotions and products.

L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Self Tanner

February 13, 2006 on 12:04 pm by Mortenson

The L’Oreal Sublime Bronze self-tanner is not the best sunless tanning product which I’ve used but it’s certainly worth a try, given the cost ($7.50/5 ounce bottle), if you’re experimenting with different self-tanning lotions. Review

  • I have a pretty light skin tone and the medium deep shade worked well on my face, giving it a smooth, darker look without any streaking. I’d recommend the deepest shade for your body if you have a dark complexion to begin with.
  • The fragrance was somewhat mild compared to some of the other tanning products, which is a definite selling point.
  • The only thing I wasn’t too thrilled with was the time it took for it to dry off my body. If you do try the Sublime Bronzer, you’d be best suited to bring along a hair dryer or a fan.
  • Make sure to rub your hands with soap and water immediately after application. Don’t want to get that orangey residue stuck on your palms.

Sun Tanning Makes Girls Look Great

February 10, 2006 on 8:52 pm by Mortenson

An Indiana newspaper has an article about tanning makes girls look great and they don’t seem to care about the risks of cancer at all:

“Beautiful girls are usually tan and I want to look like them,” said 17-year-old Kayla Yale of Suwanee. “They have a lot of influence over how I think.”

Although Duluth dermatologist, Gabrielle Sabini, has not seen an increase in tanning bed use in her 11 years as a doctor, she hasn’t seen a decline, either. Being tan has long been a trend society has embraced, she said, but it has a price.

“I’ve had a 17-year-old with melanoma (skin cancer) and a 12-year-old that was about as close to skin cancer as you can be,” Sabini said. “You have to surgically remove (the cancer) and you have a pretty large scar.”

Why not get the great look of a healthy glowing tan AND avoid skin cancer by using a self-tanning lotion like Banana Boat Sunless Tanning Creme? Or Au Courant Instant Sunless Tanning Spray? As awareness about the ease and affordability of self-tanning lotions, it will only become more prevelant as a tanning solution. It’s a no brainer.
