Clarins Paris Self-Tanning Face Cream Review: Tan and Protect Your Skin
December 1, 2005 on 8:42 am by MortensonWhile I raved about Neutrogena’s Sunless Tanning Kit in its review, Clarins Self-Tanning Face Cream is another one of the best face tanning creams on the market. Why you ask? This self-tanner not only helps your skin look bronzed, but it helps you protect your skin from the sun as well. The product contains an SPF 15 sunscreen that “helps protect against the sun’s harmful rays.” Additionally, it can get a bronzed skin tone to your skin within just two hours of application. The sunless tanning cream also acts as a tanning moisturizer because it contains moisturizing ingredients Erythrulose and Aloe. No wonder InStyle magazine rated this as the best facial self-tanner in their May 2004 issue!
We also recently reviewed Clarins Radiance-Plus Self-Tanning Gel.
Clarins Radiance-Plus Self Tanning Cream-Gel Review
November 28, 2005 on 7:12 pm by MortensonThe Clarins Radiance-Plus Self-Tanning Gel is not your typical self-tanner. At around $49/bottle it better not be!! In fact, I am willing to go out on a limb and recommend to those of you who are serious about sunless tanning to go out and purchase this lotionright now, or at least consider it.
Many of the sunless tanners on the market offer up tanning ingredients that make your skin smell funky and look unnatural. Clarins Radiance-Plus is not one of those products. Clarins tanning lotions have a long history of being excellent skincare products and this one might be the best of them all.
Mini Review:
Strengths: Clarins Radiance-Plus Self-Tanning Gel gives off a very natural-looking glow, subtly moisturizing your skin to keep it healthy while at the same time offering up a shimmering, iridescent look that will keep you glowing all year round. The fragrance that eminates from Radiance is classy and subtle. No unnatural odors here.
Weaknesses: Cost. Quality comes at a steep price ($49 for 1.7oz), but worth it for a sunless tanning lotion of this quality.
Ingredients: DHA, Erythrulose, Vitamin B5 (panthenol), Vitamin E.
For the face, Clarins has the Clarins Self Tanning Face Cream. And if you are looking for a cheaper alternative, Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer always works well.
Editor’s Pick: Clarins Liquid Bronze Self-Tanner
October 21, 2005 on 3:31 am by MortensonClarins has outdone itself this time with their Liquid Bronze product. This is the best self tanning lotion I’ve tried to date. Here are some of the reasons why I loved the Liquid Bronzer and why it might be the tanner for you.
1) Far and away the best scent and feel I’ve encountered in a self-tanner!! Clarins has basically created a fragrant, moisturizing self-tanning product that has the fantastic scent of a nice perfume and the delicate touch of a smooth moisturizer. And the best part is that I can put it on in the morning and not have to worry about getting grossed out looks from all the guys on the train.
2) The long-lasting bronze glow is absolutely ideal for my skin tone (medium). After I apply the Bronzer it lasts at least 5 days. And every time I add on another application my skin gets darker and darker, just like a real tan.
3) The Liquid Bronze is so reliable and easy to use. I never have to worry about streaking or splotching or any of that other crap. I just put it on a pad, rub it on my skin and Voila, a perfect tan.
4) A little pricey but well worth it given the quality of the tan you’ll receive. For under $30 you’ll get a 4.2 ounce bottle
Go buy it now. You can thank me later.

Clarins Self Tanning Instant Gel: Worth the Price?
September 26, 2005 on 11:16 pm by MortensonThe Clarins Self Tanning Gel isn’t much of a gel at all. I’d call it more of a lotion than anything. I’m convinced that Clarins only promotes this self-taning product as a gel to rationalize the exorbitant $30 they charge for something so ordinary.
That’s not to say that I didn’t like the tanner. The tan I received was authentic, dark yet understated, and the smooth blend of the moisturizing agent left a nice feeling on my skin. The fragrance itself I found to be rather pleasant but I can see some people being turned off by the distinctive smell.
Overall, I have mixed feelings about this self-tanning product. I have very few complaints as far as the tanner is concerned other than the steep price. However, I am a proponent of cheaper alternatives in cosmetics and I think that $30 is just too much to spend on a glorified tanning lotion.
White Jeans + Sunless Tan = Hot
August 22, 2005 on 1:03 am by MortensonWhite jeans are a hot fashion item this summer, and the best way to compliment them is a great tan. This article in the Louisville, Kentucky Courrier-Journal lays out some fashion tips for finding great jeans and then describes some self-tanning products: Neutrogena’s Build-a-Tan Sunless Tanning Lotion and Clarins Liquid Bronze Self-Tanner.
Which brings us to self-tanning, traditionally the bastion of streaks, brown hands and that unmistakable tanning-cream odor. The smell lingers, even with most of the more recent products. But they’re more effective than they were even a few years ago.
Jergens Natural Glow Is Selling Out: Check Out These Alternatives!
August 20, 2005 on 2:13 am by MortensonIt’s hard to believe but bloggers in various cities have actually begun setting up systems to help each other find stores that still have Jergens Natural Glow in stock. Some recommend buying the product online or getting it shipped from somewhere like Texas. But, if you’re in a pinch, it might be a better bet to try out one of these two alternate products:
1) Olay Body Quench Radiance Reviver Body Lotion
2) Clarins Radiance Plus Self-Tanning Body Lotion
These products provide a hint of color while moisturizing your body. In fact, some people even say that the Olay product actually smells better and the Clarins product fades better, with less splotchiness. However, watch out because the Olay product has been known to stain clothing and the Clarins product is pretty pricey!
For more in-depth reviews on both the Olay (3 stars) and Clarins (4 stars) products, check out Epinions. Over time, these products might start to get the same amount of attention as Jergens.
