Sunless Tanning Overview from Consumer Reports
March 24, 2006 on 12:17 pm by MurphyCheck out this article at Consumer Search. Incuded are tips from experts including info about DHA (dihydroxyacetone) which is the main ingredient in most sunless tanning products. Here is a brief snippet they have on self tanning pills:
Some companies have sold capsules containing the chemical canthaxanthin, which they falsely claimed will tan skin and protect from sunburn and cancer; in June 2004, the FDA ordered these companies to stop selling canthaxanthin capsules. ASN Canthaxanthin capsules and Bronze EZ Canthaxanthin are two examples, both formerly marketed by SmartBodyz Nutrition. Experts warn that these capsules do nothing to protect skin from sun exposure or cancer.
There is a good overview of several brands including L’Oreal, Neutrogena, and Estee Lauder. You can also find Tanning Moisturizer reviews on our site.
L’Oreal Sublime Gets 4 Stars
March 18, 2006 on 12:47 pm by Murphy
There’s a great review of L’Oreal Sublime self-tanning moisturizer at epinions. The reviewer gives the gelee version of the product 4 stars!
The tanner is a translucent, lightly orange-tinted gel, with a consistency slightly less than that of honey … it has a clean, fresh scent (which was a pleasant change from the odd odor of most tanners), and contains vitamin E for extra skin conditioning
Great review of L’Oreal Sublime Bronze
March 15, 2006 on 12:27 pm by Murphy
Here is a great review of L’Oreal’s sublime bronze tanner gelee product. The review is of German descent, so she knows what it’s like to struggle with pale skin. Her experience with this product was not positive, and the review offers a great balance to most of the positiv reviews that are out there.
The next morning, I awoke to orange, streaky legs, and feet that were tan(gerine) on the tops, but pale on the toes (save my right great toe). So much for wearing skirts and sandals this weekend.

Click here to read a review of L’Oreal’s “Tan-Tastic” self-tan spray. The review is quote thorough and contains sections for usage, texture, and results.
The author ends up giving the product 5 stars–she must have really liked it!
I just love having a nice tan, so in the winter, or the beginning of summer I use a fake tan. I’ve used many different brands of self-tanning, and I have found L’Oreal Self-Tan Spray to be very good, with effective results.

L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Self Tanner
February 13, 2006 on 12:04 pm by GrablerThe L’Oreal Sublime Bronze self-tanner is not the best sunless tanning product which I’ve used but it’s certainly worth a try, given the cost ($7.50/5 ounce bottle), if you’re experimenting with different self-tanning lotions. Review
- I have a pretty light skin tone and the medium deep shade worked well on my face, giving it a smooth, darker look without any streaking. I’d recommend the deepest shade for your body if you have a dark complexion to begin with.
- The fragrance was somewhat mild compared to some of the other tanning products, which is a definite selling point.
- The only thing I wasn’t too thrilled with was the time it took for it to dry off my body. If you do try the Sublime Bronzer, you’d be best suited to bring along a hair dryer or a fan.
- Make sure to rub your hands with soap and water immediately after application. Don’t want to get that orangey residue stuck on your palms.
