Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Foam-Deep, For a Deep Sunless Tan
October 20, 2006 on 1:45 pm by Mortenson
Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Foam, Deep is a great shade for those with darker skin tones. It provides a natural sunless tan, is oil-free and dries in less than 5 minutes. This self tanning foam has a nice and plesant light fragrance unlike many sunless tanning products on the market today. Applied correctly, this product will not leave any streaks.
Sunless tanning foams can be a bit more trying to apply. They require more careful application and concentration for streak-free results. It is best to start with just a small amount of foam by pumping a small puff of foam into the palm of your hand. Always apply to cleansed and exfoliated skin for best results. Apply in a ciruclar motion. Rub into skin well. The foam is concentrated and a little bit goes a long way. You should only need one pump for arms and one to two pumps for legs. Wash hands immediately after applying Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Foam, Deep. Let foam dry for at least 5 minutes before dressing or you may experience staining of your clothing. This is a water based formula so do not get in a pool or shower because you tanning foam will just go down the drain.
Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Foam, Deep will start to develop color in 2-4 hours and will last for several days. It does not contain any sunscreen so use proper precautions when going out in the sun.
Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Foam, Deep in a 4 fl. oz. container can be purchased at Drugstore.com for only $8.99.

Sunless Tanning Overview from Consumer Reports
March 24, 2006 on 12:17 pm by MortensonCheck out this article at Consumer Search. Incuded are tips from experts including info about DHA (dihydroxyacetone) which is the main ingredient in most sunless tanning products. Here is a brief snippet they have on self tanning pills:
Some companies have sold capsules containing the chemical canthaxanthin, which they falsely claimed will tan skin and protect from sunburn and cancer; in June 2004, the FDA ordered these companies to stop selling canthaxanthin capsules. ASN Canthaxanthin capsules and Bronze EZ Canthaxanthin are two examples, both formerly marketed by SmartBodyz Nutrition. Experts warn that these capsules do nothing to protect skin from sun exposure or cancer.
There is a good overview of several brands including L’Oreal, Neutrogena, and Estee Lauder. You can also find Tanning Moisturizer reviews on our site.
Clarins Paris Self-Tanning Face Cream Review: Tan and Protect Your Skin
December 1, 2005 on 8:42 am by MortensonWhile I raved about Neutrogena’s Sunless Tanning Kit in its review, Clarins Self-Tanning Face Cream is another one of the best face tanning creams on the market. Why you ask? This self-tanner not only helps your skin look bronzed, but it helps you protect your skin from the sun as well. The product contains an SPF 15 sunscreen that “helps protect against the sun’s harmful rays.” Additionally, it can get a bronzed skin tone to your skin within just two hours of application. The sunless tanning cream also acts as a tanning moisturizer because it contains moisturizing ingredients Erythrulose and Aloe. No wonder InStyle magazine rated this as the best facial self-tanner in their May 2004 issue!
We also recently reviewed Clarins Radiance-Plus Self-Tanning Gel.
Tan Your Skin to the Perfect Color!
October 29, 2005 on 10:03 pm by MortensonIf your “tan” leaves you looking a shade of yellow or orange that is quite different from your natural skin color, it’s probably not going to be too believable. For those of you that dye your hair, the process and its problems are quite similar. Self-tanner results on your natural coloring and so each user gets a slightly different tan from the same tanning product. At least this will keep us from looking like “Brave New World” style tanning automatons. But let’s protect against looking like a banana or an orange, okay? AuerSaver Tanning & Fitness offers this advice:
Experiment to find the perfect shade (and the right amount of product needed) for you. Unless your natural skin tone is very dark, start off with a product that has a lower concentration of DHA (meaning one that’s labeled “fair” or “medium,” not “dark” or “deep”), and give yourself two or three applications, spread out over a few days. Or try the newest innovation: Neutrogena Build-a-Tan , a self-tanner that allows you to gradually build up your color–no matter what your skin tone–based on the number of applications.
If you’re already noticing some unappealing color on your skin, gently scrub the product off in the shower, or go for a swim in a pool. The chlorine will accelerate the fading process.
